Overview
The Pacific Northwest Trail runs near the northern American-Canadian border, and passes through numerous national parks, national forests, and mountain ranges in the region. It was named a National Scenic Trail by President Obama in 2009. The overall difficulty of hiking the PNT is strenuous, and thru-hikes should only be attempted by seasoned hikers. The trail has several factors that contribute to this rating, such as difficulty mountainous terrain, challenging navigation, rainy weather conditions, and complicated logistical arrangements around the national parks.
