The Sierra High Route is a trekking route through the wilderness of the Sierra Nevada, and is often seen as a more adventurous alternative to the nearby John Muir Trail. The route is mostly unmarked, so hikers will need to be fairly experienced in navigation and mountaineering. The route is relatively short in length, but is still considered very strenuous in difficulty. The remote wilderness and low popularity makes navigation more complicated than most long distance trails. Additionally, the high elevation increases the risk of hazards such as severe weather and availability of rescue.
